A Millet Mart canteen has been inaugurated at the ground floor of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) head office in Visakhapatnam. East constituency MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu and GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg inaugurated the facility on Tuesday. The New Indian Express
The canteen has been established under the GVMC-MEPMA initiative, with the objective of providing livelihood opportunities to women associated with Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The facility will serve millet-based breakfast items along with Araku Coffee. The Hans India
The GVMC Contractors’ Association contributed around ₹10 lakh towards developing the canteen. The initiative is also intended to promote healthy food options for people visiting the civic body’s headquarters. The New Indian Express
GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg said more than 500 people visit the GVMC head office every day for various civic-related works, in addition to officers and employees. The canteen has been established to provide them with quality food while supporting women’s livelihoods. The New Indian Express
The facility is being managed by K. Venkatalakshmi, a member of the Vijayadurga Self-Help Group under MEPMA.
