National Voters' Day 2024: Date, History, Significance, and Theme

National Voters' Day holds immense importance in India, marked annually on January 25th to inspire citizens to actively engage in the electoral process.

This celebration, now in its 14th edition, was first observed on January 25, 2011, initiated to encourage young voters to participate in shaping the nation's destiny.

The significance of this day is rooted in the belief that the ballot is mightier than the bullet.

The Indian Constitution not only guarantees the fundamental rights of voters but also outlines their responsibilities.

Voting is a civic duty, a powerful tool that has safeguarded our inalienable rights throughout history.

To address declining interest among new voters, the Election Commission launched a nationwide effort.

On January 25 each year, eligible voters turning 18 are identified and enrolled in the electoral rolls, receiving their Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC).

The theme for National Voters' Day 2024 is 'Nothing Like Voting, I Vote For Sure,' continuing last year's focus.

The national function in New Delhi will be graced by the Chief Guest, President Droupadi Murmu, and Guest of Honour, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge), Arjun Ram Meghwal.

The event will also witness the participation of Heads and representatives of Election Management bodies from countries such as Maldives, Philippines, Russia, Sri Lanka, and Uzbekistan, reinforcing the global significance of democratic participation.
