Night Food Court Vendors in Dire Straits as GVMC Issues Eviction Notices
The situation has turned bleak for approximately 60 authorized vendors operating at the Night Food Bazaar/Court in Visakhapatnam.
They find themselves in a precarious predicament as the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has served them with eviction notices, demanding that they vacate the premises within a mere 10 days.
This sudden move by the corporation has instilled a sense of unease among the vendors, who argue that the GVMC's actions are unjust, especially when there is a pressing need to crack down on unauthorized vendors.
The decision to shutter the Night Food Bazaar, which was initially launched by the GVMC in February 2020 with the participation of approximately 25 vendors, was driven by the prevailing COVID-19 circumstances.
Within a month of its inauguration, the Bazaar had to close its doors. The families reliant on this food hub endured over a year of hardship until it was eventually reopened, following the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions.
Unfortunately, the Night Food Bazaar faced another closure during the second wave of the pandemic, leaving vendors and their families grappling with adversity for an extended period.
While it was eventually reopened, the recent issuance of eviction notices has thrown the future of these vendors into uncertainty.
They are left grappling with concerns about their livelihoods and the well-being of their families, as they struggle to comprehend the GVMC's decision to displace them when there is a more pressing need to address the issue of unauthorized vendors.
