A proposal to develop more eco-friendly cement by using industrial waste and nuclear power has drawn attention in Visakhapatnam. The concept focuses on reducing the environmental impact associated with conventional cement manufacturing. Industrial by-products such as fly ash, slag and other suitable waste materials can be used as alternative raw materials in cement production. Their utilisation can reduce dependence on virgin resources and help address industrial waste-management challenges. Nuclear power is being considered as a potential low-carbon energy source for energy-intensive industrial processes. Cement manufacturing requires substantial amounts of heat and electricity, making energy efficiency and cleaner power important areas for decarbonisation. Combining alternative raw materials with low-carbon energy could help reduce emissions from the cement-production process. The proposal is also in line with the broader shift towards circular-economy practices in the construction sector. Researchers and industry experts are increasingly examining ways to convert industrial waste into useful construction materials. Such approaches could support resource conservation while reducing the amount of waste sent for disposal. However, the technical, economic, environmental and regulatory feasibility of using nuclear-generated energy for cement production would require detailed assessment. Further research and pilot projects would be necessary before such a concept could be adopted commercially. The proposal highlights the scope for innovative technologies to make construction materials more sustainable.
