Rooftop Solar Power in Visakhapatnam Struggles to Gain Momentum Despite Subsidy Scheme
Despite the Union Government's subsidy scheme for rooftop solar panels being in place for nearly a decade, widespread adoption in Visakhapatnam remains slow.
Factors such as a lack of interest from implementing agencies, delays in subsidy and loan disbursement, and the low buyback rates offered by DISCOMs are hindering the growth of solar energy usage.
Solar power users advocate for the many benefits, but they point out several challenges. These include the need for faster application processing, quicker installation timelines, timely loan approvals from banks, and the prompt release of subsidy amounts.
They also suggest offering more incentives like tax depreciation and increasing the buyback price for excess energy fed back into the grid.
One solar user emphasized, "Solar power users should be treated as manufacturers, and depreciation should be provided yearly to avail tax benefits. The contribution of solar energy to the environment is immense."
With these improvements, experts believe that more residents in Visakhapatnam would be encouraged to adopt rooftop solar systems, tapping into the environmental and financial benefits of clean energy.
