“Step Up and Dance” was first introduced as a Dancers Get-together Party in 2013 to celebrate DB Breakdance Association of Visakhapatnam 2^nd Anniversary as a Dance Team.

In the last 9 years “Step Up and Dance” has grown from a close circle get-together event to a city level dance battle/competition platform, to promote dance as a positive medium of self-expression and create awareness on street dance styles such as Breaking (Breakdancing), Hip Hop, Popping, Locking, etc.

This year Destiny Breakers, who also happen to be the Official District Body for Breaking in Vizag; registered under the name “DB Breakdance Association of Visakhapatnam” hosted the 2022 edition of “Step Up and Dance” on July 24^th at Madhu’s AIM Fitness & Dance Floor (MVP Colony, Vizag) to promote Breaking (Breakdancing) as an Official DanceSport that will be making its debut at the Olympics 2024.

The event is being hosted as a “Solo Breaking (Breakdance) League”, which will be conducted twice every month to encourage all the upcoming Breakdancers (Bboys & B girls) of Vizag District by providing them a platform to showcase their skills and build the necessary battle/competition experience to prepare for National Championships.

The event saw a total participation of 16 people (Boys & Girls) from all different age groups. The Judge Panel included Bgirl Shreya from Destiny Breakers Crew (Vizag), Bboy Nani from Shurikens Crew (Vizag) & Bboy Pavan from Strange Weirds Crew (Vizag). The Host/MC of the show was Mr. Sohail Singh Gill, who also happens to be the President & Senior Coach at the DB Breakdance Association of Visakhapatnam; ensured that the competition format & judging criteria were being followed as per the Olympics standards.

Chaitanya from Destiny Breakers Dance School was awarded the Gold Medal, Praneeth from AIM Fitness & Dance Floor was awarded the Silver & Nishita from Aim Fitness and Dance Floor was awarded the Bronze medal. The title for the Outstanding Performer was awarded to Surya Teja from Destiny Breakers Dance School.

Over the course of the entire “Solo Breaking League”, the winners will be assessed based on their performance and awarded a District Level Ranking, which will help the highest ranking dancers to go ahead and represent Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) at National Level Breaking (Breakdance) Events and DanceSport/Olympic Championships.

DB Breakdance Association of Visakhapatnam will be hosting the 2^nd Edition of “Step Up And Dance” on Aug  7th ,2022 (Sunday) at AIM Fitness & Dance Floor, MVP Colony (Vizag).
