Tips to stay safe from the Heatwave

Several parts of Andhra Pradesh are experiencing intense heat waves, and the temperature has even touched 45 degrees Celsius in many places. As per the reports and climate experts, heatwaves are more problematic than high temperatures. They are not only uncomfortable but harmful to the people.

Heatwaves are periods of extremely high temperatures in certain areas for extended lengths of time. Common symptoms of heat exhaustion are increased body temperature, nausea, rapid breathing, and severe headaches. A heatwave can also be problematic for your mental health and can make one feel dull. It can also increase your risk of heart disease.

Here are some preventive measures or tips to avoid the dangers of a heatwave:

1. If you have to work or be outside, wear loose, light-colored UV-protective and moisture-wicking clothing. Apply sunscreen to your face, hands, and any other exposed skin, then cover up with a hat and sunglasses.

 2. If you are outside during a heatwave, drink plenty of water, even if you aren't thirsty. Avoid sugary or alcoholic beverages, as they will cause you to lose more fluids.

3. Before drinking more than the quantity suggested by your doctor if you're on a restrictive fluid diet or have a problem with fluid retention.

4. Use a scarf or umbrella while exposed to the sun.

5. Avoid going out during the hot summer afternoons.

6. Heat-related illness can affect anyone, but some people are particularly at risk. If you live with or know people, who fit into any of these categories, check on them frequently during a heatwave.

We cannot do much about the heatwaves, but we can take a few precautions to keep ourselves safe during these challenging times. So please follow the above mentioned and stay safe.
