Two Government Hospitals in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh Receive NABH Accreditation

In a significant development, two government hospitals in Andhra Pradesh, namely the Government Mental Care Hospital and the Government Chest Diseases Hospital in Vishakhapatnam, have achieved accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH).

This accreditation aligns with the vision of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is committed to providing high-quality healthcare services to the people of the state.

The NABH accreditation is expected to enhance the quality of healthcare services in these two state-run hospitals and facilitate the introduction of new and specialized services.

Among the innovative services to be introduced are the establishment of specialized blocks and units, including a pulmonary rehabilitation center and lung biopsies.

Furthermore, the hospitals will implement modern approaches such as Telemedicine consultation, demonstrating their dedication to improving patient care and ensuring more accessible healthcare services.

The Government Mental Care Hospital has achieved a remarkable 98 percent recovery rate, excluding chronic conditions, and has treated 1,172 new cases and 28,443 previous cases in the past six months.

Moreover, 79,564 patients sought treatment for various mental health concerns. The hospital specializes in treating disorders such as Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder, alcohol-related disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), alcohol addiction, and depression.

With NABH accreditation, plans are underway to establish a dedicated child psychology block and a child Psychiatry unit.

On the other hand, the Government Chest Diseases Hospital, the second government hospital in the state to attain NABH accreditation, plays a vital role in diagnosing and treating pulmonary ailments. It handles 200 daily outpatient cases and accommodates 120 to 150 inpatients, making it one of India's largest pulmonary care hospitals.

The hospital provides comprehensive care for conditions like asthma, pneumonia, lung cancer, tuberculosis, empyema, and Covid-19.

It also boasts specialized facilities, including a ward dedicated to snoring-related issues. With NABH accreditation, the hospital is gearing up to establish a dedicated Thoracic unit, further enhancing its healthcare offerings.

Both hospitals operate within the framework of YSR Aarogyasri or ABDM (Ayushman Bharat Digital Machine), requiring patients to present their Aadhar or health card, ensuring efficient healthcare delivery.

The NABH accreditation serves as a catalyst for these hospitals to continue delivering top-notch healthcare services to the people of Andhra Pradesh.
