Vice Admiral Biswajit Dasgupta Retires After a Storied Tenure at Eastern Naval Command



Vice Admiral Biswajit Dasgupta, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) of Eastern Naval Command (ENC), bid a farewell as he retired from his esteemed position after an impressive 20-month tenure.

The farewell ceremony, held at the naval base in Visakhapatnam, was marked by an awe-inspiring Ceremonial Parade.

During the farewell event, Vice Admiral Dasgupta inspected the Ceremonial Guard and reviewed the platoons of naval and DSC (Defence Security Corps) personnel, receiving heartfelt farewell wishes from all Flag Officers and Commanding Officers of ships, submarines, and establishments. The traditional 'Pulling Out' ceremony followed, symbolizing the conclusion of his remarkable 38-year service in the Indian Navy, with a significant portion served at the Eastern Naval Command.

 


Under Vice Admiral Dasgupta's leadership, the Eastern Naval Command experienced an extraordinary operational tempo. Ships, submarines, and aircraft were deployed in strategic locations ranging from the Eastern Pacific to the East Coast of Africa, showcasing the Command's robust capabilities and dedication to maritime security.

The Eastern Naval Command also made commendable contributions in humanitarian efforts, participating in crucial Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations. Notably, the Command played a pivotal role in evacuating stranded Indian nationals from Sudan during Operation Kaveri and provided aid to Myanmar after Cyclone Mocha as part of Operation Karuna.

During his tenure, the Eastern Naval Command successfully organized several flagship events that garnered international attention. Among these events were the multilateral Maritime International Exercise - MILAN 2022, the prestigious President's Fleet Review 22, and the awe-inspiring Navy Day Operations Demo 2022, all of which received the honor of being witnessed by the President of India.

Vice Admiral Biswajit Dasgupta's tenure also saw the establishment of two significant museums. The Sea Harrier Museum was set up at Visakhapatnam, commemorating the illustrious history of the Sea Harrier aircraft, while the TU Museum was established in Kolkata, preserving the legacy of the Tupolev Tu-142 aircraft.

As Vice Admiral Biswajit Dasgupta concludes his distinguished naval career, his invaluable contributions to the Eastern Naval Command and the Indian Navy will be remembered and cherished. His leadership and accomplishments have left an indelible mark on the maritime security landscape of the region.
