Vizag Observes International Day Against Drug Abuse with Rallies and Awareness Campaigns

Community and Authorities Unite to Combat Drug Abuse, Vizag marked the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Wednesday with a series of rallies, awareness walks, and seminars.

The city police, Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB), and various government departments collaborated to design several programs aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug use and trafficking. Educational institutions also played a significant role, hosting special seminars to educate students on the harmful effects of drugs.

In a major event, the city police organized an awareness walk along Beach Road, joined by numerous citizens and NGOs.

The rally was flagged off by Home Minister V. Anitha, with Collector Mayur Ashok and other officials in attendance. Later in the evening, Joint Commissioner of Police K. Fakeerappa participated in an awareness session with students from various colleges at PM Palem.

Anakapalli Town witnessed a massive rally led by Superintendent of Police (SP) K.V. Murali Krishna. Hundreds of students marched from Ring Road Junction to Four Road Junction, chanting "Say No to Drugs" and forming a human chain.

The students also took a pledge to abstain from drugs, in the presence of Collector P. Ravi Subhash. SP Murali Krishna highlighted the establishment of four static and eleven dynamic checkposts in the district to curb the ganja trade.

In Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district, SP Tuhin Sinha led the district police in organizing 1k runs, awareness walks, and seminars across various mandal headquarters, including G Madugula, Pedabayalu, and Araku Valley.

These events involved the participation of youth and students, especially tribal students. The police engaged the students in a pledge against drug abuse and informed them about government initiatives and community welfare programs in the villages.

Additionally, the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) provided information on coaching facilities for various competitive examinations.

These comprehensive efforts across Vizag aim to foster a drug-free community by educating the public, particularly the youth, about the severe consequences of drug abuse and the importance of making healthy, informed choices.
