North Coastal Andhra Pradesh Hit by Moderate to Heavy Rains
Visakhapatnam Low-Lying Areas Flooded; Motorists Struggle Through Waterlogged Roads
On Wednesday evening, moderate to heavy rains battered many parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, including Visakhapatnam.
The downpour, lasting for an hour, left low-lying areas inundated with knee-deep water. Motorists were seen navigating through flooded roads in various parts of the city, including PM Palem, Madhurawada, Maddilapalem, Jagadamba Centre, Poorna Market, Seethammadhara, Kancharapalem, Gnanapuram, MVP Colony, and Gopalapatnam.
Meteorologists from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the rainfall to active Southwest monsoon conditions, which are expected to persist over the next few days.
According to real-time data from the AP State Development Planning Society (APSDPS), Yelamanchili in Anakapalli district recorded the highest rainfall in the state, with 74.5 mm of rain till 8 pm on Wednesday.
Within Visakhapatnam city limits, Pendurthi and its surrounding areas experienced the highest rainfall, recording around 30 mm.
The IMD's weather bulletin on Wednesday also warned that isolated places in the north coastal region are likely to experience heavy rains on Thursday, June 27.
