Varun Tej Aims for a Comeback with Period Film, Varun Tej, a prominent actor from the mega family, is currently filming his latest project, 'Matka.'

Directed by Karuna Kumar of 'Palasa' fame, the film features Varun Tej alongside Meenakshi Chaudhary in the lead roles. A lavish set costing Rs. 15 crores has been erected in Visakhapatnam (Vizag) to recreate the city’s vintage look, as the story is set in Vizag during the past.

The production team has invested heavily in these elaborate sets to authentically depict the historical ambiance of Vizag.

Most of the film’s shooting will occur in these specially constructed locations. 'Matka' is a critical film for Varun Tej, who is in dire need of a hit. His recent release, 'Operation Valentine,' received negative reviews and was a box office disaster.

Similarly, his previous film, 'Gandeevadhari Arjuna,' directed by Praveen Sattaru, also failed to make an impact at the box office. Varun Tej's last successful solo film was 'Gaddalakonda Ganesh' in 2019, although he found some relief with the multi-starrer 'F3' directed by Anil Ravipudi, co-starring Venkatesh.

With 'Matka,' all eyes are on Varun Tej to see if he can deliver a much-needed hit. Additionally, there are reports that he may collaborate with director Sekhar Kammula again, following their blockbuster success with 'Fidaa.'
