VMRDA to Launch Coastal Erosion Mitigation Project in Visakhapatnam

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA), in partnership with the National Centre for Coastal Research-Visakhapatnam (NCCR-V), is set to implement a comprehensive coastal erosion mitigation project aimed at protecting the shoreline between Visakhapatnam and Bhimili.

This initiative seeks to address the growing issue of beach erosion, which has long affected the region.

The VMRDA has submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared by NCCR to the Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority (APDMA).

Currently under state-level review, the report will soon be forwarded to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to secure 90% of the project’s funding under the National Policy for Relief and Rehabilitation.

Once approved, this project is expected to bring lasting solutions to preserve the coastline and prevent further erosion, safeguarding the coastal communities and ecosystems.
