Advancing Sustainable Fisheries: Collaborative Workshop in Visakhapatnam

In a concerted effort to promote the sustainable development of fisheries, Visakhapatnam recently hosted a workshop facilitated by the National Productivity Council.

The event, held in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries and Andhra University, delved into various crucial aspects of fish marketing systems and effective cold chain management.

The workshop, which took place on Tuesday, served as a platform for industry stakeholders to engage in discussions surrounding topics such as fish marketing systems, innovative cold chain management techniques, and the utilization of phase change material for cooling purposes. Participants exchanged insights and explored innovative solutions aimed at fostering the sustainable growth of the fisheries industry.

During the technical session, officials presented findings from the NPC study on best practices in fish marketing systems, highlighted initiatives by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) to promote fisheries sector growth through exports, and showcased eco-friendly movable fish kiosks known as 'Matsya Vahini.'

Addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor of Andhra University, PVGD Prasad Reddy, underscored the significance of the fisheries sector in the region's economy. Attendees included fish farmers from various districts, representatives of fishery associations, retailers, exporters, entrepreneurs, subject matter experts, and government officials from fishery institutions across the state.

The workshop provided a valuable opportunity for stakeholders to collaborate, exchange ideas, and lay the groundwork for sustainable development initiatives in the fisheries industry.
