Andhra Pradesh Cabinet Approves New Liquor Policy and Major Initiatives



Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, approved several significant measures during its meeting on Wednesday, including a new liquor policy and the renaming of Bhogapuram airport.

Under the new liquor policy, the average price of liquor will be set at Rs 99. To promote fairness and transparency, 10% of liquor retail shops will be reserved for the Kallu Geetha (Gowda) community, totaling 340 out of 3,736 shops in the state. For unreserved shops, the license fee will be set at 50% of the proposed slab. The new policy will be implemented from October 1, 2024.

The Cabinet also approved the renaming of Bhogapuram airport to Alluri Sitarama Raju Airport. Additionally, the construction of the Polavaram diaphragm wall will be entrusted to the existing agency as per the Central Water Commission’s recommendations. The name of Rythu Bharosa Kendra will be changed to Rythu Seva Kendra.


Other notable decisions include:
Backward Communities Reservation: 33% reservation for Backward Communities in legislatures.
New Excise Regulations: Amendments to the IMFL and FL Trade Regulation Act - 1993.
Retail Policy: Introduction of a private retail policy to enhance management and revenue efficiency.
Support for Ex-Servicemen: Establishment of Andhra Pradesh Ex-Servicemen Corporation Ltd (APEXCO) with a revised corpus fund of Rs 10 crore.
Healthcare Initiatives: Launch of the STEMI programme and health check-ups for children in Anganwadi centres and schools.
Administrative Enhancements: Creation of 58 temporary posts in the Chief Minister’s Office to streamline the handling of relief fund cases and complaints.

The Cabinet also approved the renaming of the under-construction Bhogapuram International Airport to Alluri Sitaramaraju International Airport, and 203 industrial land allotments based on APIIC norms. A preliminary corpus of Rs 100 crore will be allocated for the credit guarantee fund scheme to support MSMEs. Additionally, the establishment of a second MSME Technology Centre in Amaravati was approved, along with the renaming of the Vision Document Vikasit Andhra 2047 to Swarnandhra @ 2047. Finally, SRM University-Amaravati will be converted to the “Deemed University” category under the Regulations-2023.
