Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has formally proposed the establishment of a dedicated Civil Aviation University in Visakhapatnam, marking a strategic initiative to bolster aviation education and regional connectivity.
The proposal emerged during a high-level review meeting held June 11, 2025, between CM Naidu, Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu, and senior officials. The focus of the discussion was to explore the feasibility of creating a state-run aviation institution in Visakhapatnam, aimed at nurturing talent and advancing aerospace training in the region.
Highlighting the developmental vision, CM Naidu emphasized that a civil aviation university located in Visakhapatnam would not only support the expansion of airport infrastructure but also cultivate a skilled workforce to sustain the state’s growing aviation ecosystem . The meeting also reviewed ongoing expansions at Vijayawada, Kadapa, and Rajahmundry airports, alongside feasibility studies for new airports in Dagadarthi, Kuppam, and Palasa
Officials confirmed that air traffic at Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam airports has surged by approximately 40%, prompting interest from airlines such as TruJet for regional and international routes, including anticipated flights to and from Singapore and Muscat.
This proposal aligns with a broader vision for transforming Visakhapatnam into a major aviation hub. The upcoming Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport (Bhogapuram) is currently under construction, signaling the state’s ambition to strengthen air connectivity further.
Next steps include feasibility assessments, seeking approval from the Union Civil Aviation Ministry, and drafting an implementation timeline.
