Andhra Pradesh Coast Braces for Cyclone Murasu After Arnab

Fresh Cyclonic System Develops Over the Bay of Bengal

Andhra Pradesh is preparing for another potential cyclonic storm following the impact of Cyclone Arnab, which crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast on October 28.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a depression formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of the Andaman Sea. The system was expected to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm, with the possibility of becoming a severe cyclonic storm.

Possible Approach to the South Andhra Pradesh Coast

The IMD’s forecast, as reported on October 31, indicated that the system could approach the south Andhra Pradesh coast around November 3. Some reports identified the stretch between Nellore and Narsapur as a possible crossing zone.

The system is expected to be named Murasu, a name contributed by India. However, its exact track, intensity and landfall location remain subject to change as it develops.

Heavy Rainfall and Strong Winds Expected

The IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on November 2 and 3. Strong winds and rough sea conditions are also expected along the coast.

Districts including Krishna, Guntur, NTR, Palnadu and Bapatla have been identified in reports as areas that may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Other districts could also experience heavy rain.

Authorities Step Up Preparedness

The fresh weather threat comes as several areas continue to recover from Cyclone Arnab. Officials have been asked to accelerate restoration work while preparing for possible disruptions to power, communications, transport and agriculture.

Residents, farmers and fishermen are advised to follow official IMD bulletins and instructions issued by district administrations. Fishermen should observe the latest warnings and avoid venturing into affected sea areas.

Forecasts Still Being Updated

The system’s projected path and intensity may change as it develops. The IMD continues to monitor the depression and is expected to issue updated forecasts and warnings.
