GVMC Ward Reorganisation Leaves Visakhapatnam Voters Confused Over Polling Booths

Ward Reorganisation Creates Polling Booth Confusion

Visakhapatnam voters have reportedly faced difficulties identifying their designated polling stations following the major reorganisation of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) wards.

The number of wards increased from 98 to 120, resulting in changes to ward boundaries and several polling-station locations. Residents who have been voting at the same booths for years are now uncertain about where they should cast their votes.

Suburban Areas Reportedly Face Greater Confusion

The confusion has reportedly been more pronounced in areas such as Gajuwaka, Pendurthi, Madhurawada and Aganampudi, where ward boundaries and polling arrangements have changed.

Some residents have reportedly not received voter information slips, while others have found incomplete or unclear details on the slips they received. The problem has been particularly challenging for elderly voters and people unfamiliar with online services.

Officials to Provide Voter Slips at Polling Stations

Election officials reportedly said Booth Level Officers (BLOs) would distribute voter slips at the respective polling stations on polling day to voters who had not received them earlier.

The issue has raised concerns among candidates and political workers about the possible impact on voter turnout. With voters facing uncertainty over booth locations, clear communication and accessible election information remain important for ensuring that eligible residents can exercise their franchise.

The situation highlights the need for updated ward maps, timely distribution of voter slips and effective public awareness whenever electoral boundaries are reorganised.
