Andhra Pradesh DGP Harish Kumar Gupta Emphasizes Enhanced Policing Strategies to Reduce Crime Rate

In a concerted effort to bolster public safety and reduce criminal activities, Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta has underscored the necessity for effective and coordinated policing strategies. Addressing a review meeting in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, DGP Gupta articulated a zero-tolerance stance towards crime, with a particular focus on the stringent enforcement against illegal drug transportation.

The meeting, held under the jurisdiction of the Visakhapatnam Commissionerate, brought together senior police officials to deliberate on current crime trends and the efficacy of existing law enforcement measures. City Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi provided a comprehensive digital presentation detailing the city's policing processes, the maintenance of law and order, and the performance metrics of various departments, including crime and traffic divisions.

DGP Gupta commended the initiatives undertaken by Commissioner Bagchi and his team, acknowledging their dedication to maintaining public safety. He emphasized the importance of enhancing policing efficiency through coordinated efforts and proactive strategies. "There will be zero tolerance towards crime, and strict action will be taken against illegal drug transportation along with other crimes," stated DGP Gupta, highlighting the department's commitment to combating criminal activities.

The DGP's directives align with the principles of proactive policing, which involve deterring criminal activity through visible police presence and community engagement. This approach includes activities such as the use of police powers by both uniformed and plainclothes officers, engaging the public to learn their concerns, and investigating and discovering offenses and conspiracies to commit crimes so that the crimes cannot be committed.
