As of May 16, 2025, Andhra Pradesh has recorded a 35% excess in pre-monsoon rainfall, bringing early relief to several districts across the state. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the state received 85.3 mm of rainfall between March 1 and May 16, against a seasonal average of 63.4 mm for the same period.
While most regions have benefited from the early rains, not all districts have shared equally in the bounty. Notably, Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam have recorded deficient rainfall, raising concerns about localized water shortages and delayed agricultural activities in these coastal areas.
Experts suggest that climate variability and shifting monsoon patterns may be contributing to the uneven distribution of rainfall across the state. Meanwhile, farmers in rain-fed districts have welcomed the early showers, which have improved soil moisture and could lead to an early start to the sowing season.
State agricultural and disaster management authorities are monitoring the situation closely, especially in areas with below-normal rainfall, to ensure adequate preparedness ahead of the official monsoon season.
Meteorologists expect further rainfall activity in the coming weeks, but stress the need for district-specific water management strategies to mitigate the risks of both excess and deficient rainfall.
