AP Ranked Fifth in the Country for Highway Construction Using Plastic Waste



In terms of the use of plastic waste in the construction of the National Highway, AP was ranked fifth in the country. According to information from the Ministry of Roads, a 32.87-kilometer national highway was constructed using plastic waste until January of this year. However, in the last five years, Andhra Pradesh has got 209.4 km of national highways built out of plastic waste.

 


Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and National Highways, revealed the details in a written statement sent to MP Vijayasai Reddy, who wrote to Nitin Gadkari inquiring if AP is one of the leading states where waste plastic is used for national highway construction. Andhra Pradesh got 95.61 km of national highways in the previous fiscal year, which was built from plastic waste generated in 2019-20.

According to Nitin Gadkari, over 7.28 lakh metric tonnes of demolition and construction waste and over 359 lakh metric tonnes of fly ash are used in national highway construction. According to the ministry, plastic waste, iron and steel slag, fly ash, demolition, and construction waste are being used in highway construction in accordance with policy guidelines.
