Auto Drivers Protest Against G.O. 21 and 31, Demand Withdrawal of Free Bus Travel for Women
On Monday, auto drivers rallied at the Gandhi statue in a significant protest organized by the Andhra Pradesh Auto and Motor Workers Union, affiliated with the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC).
The protestors are calling for the repeal of G.O. 21 and 31, which impose stringent penalties for minor traffic violations.
They also demand the withdrawal of free bus travel for women, arguing that it negatively affects their earnings.
The union’s State General Secretary, G. Vamana Murthy, urged the State government to reconsider its decision or offer alternative revenue sources to mitigate the financial impact on auto drivers.
Additionally, the union opposes the installation of new toll gates across the State, which they claim are designed to generate revenue under the guise of road improvement.
