Awareness program on “Save the Frogs” at PEN School
As a part of the Zoo School Program, On the occasion of “Save the Frogs” Day on April 30, 2022, the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park Zoo Education Team in Visakhapatnam organized an awareness program on frogs for P.E.N School students, Akkayyapalem.
The students were briefed that every little creature in the environment along with us is also very important and we need to protect all living creatures. The Zoo education team explains to the students the importance of frogs in our environment and how they can benefit us. There are a total of 5000 species of frogs in the world, some of which are endangered.
Students were made aware to protect the species of frogs that are found around us like the Gray Tree Frog, Bull Frog, Indian Tree Frog, and Pygmy Frog, etc. from being endangered. The Zoo education team explained how frogs feed on mosquitoes and larvae, small worms and purifies the water as well as protect us from diseases. The types of frogs that exist and their way of life are explained in a way that students can understand.
All children should come forward to protect the frog species from the student stage onwards. Later the students participated in a quiz competition on frogs. Prizes were awarded to the winners. The Zoo education team and P.E.N school staff participated in the event.
