In a strategic move to enhance urban mobility and address the escalating traffic congestion in Visakhapatnam, authorities have identified 15 new road projects between Gajuwaka and Bhogapuram. This initiative aims to streamline traffic flow, reduce travel time, and bolster connectivity to the forthcoming Bhogapuram International Airport, thereby fostering economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents.

Current Traffic Challenges

The stretch between Gajuwaka and Bhogapuram has been experiencing significant traffic bottlenecks, primarily due to rapid urbanization, industrial expansion, and a surge in vehicular population. Key intersections, especially those along National Highway 16 (NH-16), such as Gajuwaka, Urvasi Junction, Lankelapalem Junction, and Car-Shed Junction, witness heavy traffic congestion, leading to delays and increased accident rates.

Proposed Road Development Projects

The comprehensive plan encompasses the development of 15 new roads designed to alleviate congestion and enhance connectivity:

1. Strategic Road Extensions: Extending existing roads to create alternative routes, thereby distributing traffic more evenly across the network.

2. Construction of Flyovers: Erecting flyovers at critical junctions, including Old Gajuwaka, Maddilapalem, Hanumanthwaka, and Car Shed Junction (PM Palem), to facilitate uninterrupted traffic flow and reduce waiting times at intersections.

3. Development of Service Roads: Implementing service roads along NH-16, particularly between Hanumanthuwaka Junction and Anandapuram, to segregate local and through traffic, thereby minimizing congestion and enhancing safety.

   Semilunar-shaped Ring Road: Proposing a ring road starting at Pudimadaka Beach in Anakapalle and culminating at Bhogapuram Beach in Vizianagaram district, aimed at providing seamless connectivity to the Bhogapuram Airport and reducing inner-city traffic.
