Bhogapuram Airport to Boost Andhra Pradesh's Economy Through Airport-Led Development



GMR Group, a major player in the infrastructure, airports, energy, transportation, and urban projects sectors in India and abroad, is building a world-class international airport in Bhogapuram. The new airport, which is expected to open in 36 months, will meet the same international standards as Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. G. M. Rao, group chairman of GMR Group, promised Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy that the airport would have the best cargo operations and aerocity features and that it would serve as an economic engine for the region, creating jobs.


Rao stated during the airport's foundation-stone-laying ceremony that Bhogapuram airport would catalyze airport-led economic development in Andhra Pradesh along the lines of Delhi and Hyderabad. He went on to say that the airport's cargo operations would benefit farmers, aquaculture, pharmaceuticals, and other industries by making exports easier. 

The GMR Group has promised to invest Rs 5,000 crore in the first phase of Bhogapuram airport development, which will serve six million passengers per year. Rao stated that building the airport to the same standards as Hyderabad airport was critical and that the airport was designed with the region's culture and traditions in mind. The airport is expected to become an economic engine, generating numerous job opportunities and boosting the region's economy. By making exports easier, the airport's cargo operations will benefit farmers and industries.
