Borra Caves Or Borra Guhalu Vizag (History, Timings, Entry Fee)

Borra Caves, located in the Ananthagiri Mandal of the Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh, are one of the country's largest caves.

These one-million-year-old caves, found by the Geological Survey of India's William King George, draw a significant number of people every day and have become one of Vizag's most popular attractions.

Tourists can enjoy a visual treat in these beautiful caves, which are located at an elevation of 1400 meters above sea level.

Borra Caves' Formation

There are a few legends among the tribals who dwell here regarding how the caves were discovered. According to folklore, a cowherd searching for his missing cow discovered the Borra caves. He discovered a Shiva Lingam within the cave and assumed it belonged to Lord Shiva.

The people constructed a tiny temple outside the cave, which is frequently visited by tourists. Another popular idea is that the Shiva Lingam found here has a cow-shaped stone formation above it and that the udder of this cow is where the Gosthani river, which flows through Vizag, originates.

The Gosthani River carved out the Borra Caves by passing through limestone strata. The spectacular stalactite and stalagmite formations discovered in these caves include Shiva-Parvathi, Rishi's Beard, Mother-Child, Crocodile, Human Brain, Tiger, and Cow's Udder.

Flowers and fruits such as jamun, guava, and mango are eaten by the bats that reside in Borra Caves. The caves have an enchanted aspect, thanks to the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation's wonderful lighting.
