CBI Seizes Massive Cache of Cocaine-Laced Yeast at Vizag Port
In a significant operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intercepted a shipment at Vizag port suspected of containing narcotics.
Upon inspection, authorities discovered a staggering 25,000 kilograms of dried yeast mixed with cocaine. This seizure marks a major blow to organized drug trafficking networks.
Under the banner of "Operation Garuda," an international initiative targeting organized crime, the CBI received intelligence via Interpol.
With cooperation from the Customs Department in Visakhapatnam, they detained a shipping container at the port on Wednesday.
The container, originating from Santos Port, Brazil, was destined for delivery at Visakhapatnam under the name of the consignee, Sandhya Aqua Exports Private, based in Lawsons Bay Colony.
Initially declared as containing 1,000 bags of inactive dried yeast weighing 25 kilograms each, totaling 25,000 kilograms, closer inspection revealed a troubling discovery.
Preliminary examinations utilizing narcotics detection methods indicated that the substance within the shipment was a mixture of narcotics and the declared dried yeast.
As a result, the entire consignment has been confiscated, and a case has been filed in the ongoing effort to combat international drug trafficking.
