A highlight of the celebration was the presentation of the prestigious NMD award of excellence, recognizing individuals whose lifetime contributions have significantly advanced the Indian maritime sector.

PSL Swami, the chief vigilance officer of VPA, led a solemn wreath-laying ceremony in honor of seafarers' sacrifices, followed by a dignified guard of honor by the VPA fleet of tugs.

Addressing the gathering, Swami emphasized the indispensable role played by the maritime sector in driving the nation's economic development.

 He expressed confidence in the sustainability of shipping and maritime activities, citing VPA's substantial contributions to cargo handling at major ports.

Distinguished speakers including DIG of Coast Guard Visakhapatnam Rajesh Mittal, Principal of HIMT Durga Prasad, Chief Mechanical Engineer of VPA RN Harikrishna, and Terminal Head of VCTPL Capt.

Sudeep Banerjee shared insights on career opportunities within the maritime domain, particularly targeting school children.

As part of the outreach, competitions in essay writing and elocution were held, with prizes awarded to outstanding participants.

The event witnessed a significant turnout, with heads of departments, senior officers, and employees of VPA actively participating in the commemoration of National Maritime Day, fostering a spirit of appreciation for the maritime heritage and future prospects within the sector.
