Fishing Boat Fire Leaves Nine Fishermen Severely Injured off Visakhapatnam Coast

Nine fishermen endured severe burns when their fishing vessel caught fire in the waters off the Visakhapatnam coast on Friday.

Promptly responding to the distress call, the patrolling vessel of the Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Veera, which was nearby, hurried to the scene and successfully rescued the fishermen.

Despite the challenging conditions, it took nearly two hours to transfer the survivors to Visakhapatnam Port.

From there, they were promptly transported to King George Hospital (KGH) with the assistance of district medical officials, who also provided them with immediate first-aid.

According to Coast Guard officials, they acted swiftly upon receiving the report of the fire, ensuring the timely rescue of the stranded fishermen.

Initial investigations suggest that a cylinder blast onboard the fishing boat triggered the fire. Further details are anticipated as the investigation progresses.
