CFV Rallies Against Tree Cutting in Vizag

VISAKHAPATNAM : Members of Climate Front Vizag (CFV) and students from St. Joseph's College conducted a rally and awareness program on Tuesday at Allipuram Road in Vizag city.

The event aimed to educate the public and demand an end to unnecessary tree cutting in the city.

Participants highlighted a recent incident where a large tree was cut down based on the mere assumption that it might get uprooted.

This action was carried out by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) under the direction of a local political leader,

Who allegedly harassed CFV members and attempted to confiscate their phones when questioned about the tree cutting.

The rally also addressed the broader issue of tree cutting due to Smart City projects and other development activities in Vizag.

Additionally, participants expressed concern over excessive concreting around trees, which violates a court order mandating sufficient breathing space around trees to ensure their stability.

CFV members Oindrila, Jayshree Hatangadi, Anjana, and Sarath voiced their fears that if the current trend of cutting trees based on illogical beliefs and convenience continues, Vizag will turn into a concrete desert.
