Chief Minister and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu has pledged to elevate Visakhapatnam into a city comparable to Mumbai, unveiling a bold blueprint for the region’s future. In a public address, he outlined several flagship initiatives:
-
Bhogapuram Airport expansion and integration with a semi-ring road and connectivity corridors.
-
Launch of the Vizag Metro, with operations expected to commence in October under a double-decker metro model. A Metro project DPR has already been submitted.
-
Establishment of a Google data centre in Visakhapatnam.
-
A Mittal steel plant set up in Anakapalli, backed by Centre's ₹11,440 crore revival package for RINL, aimed at reviving and preventing privatization.
-
Creation of a dedicated railway zone in the region.
-
Launch of several welfare schemes—including ’Talliki Vandanam’, promising ₹15,000 annually per school-going child to over 67 lakh students; free bus travel for women from August 15; and Annadata Sukhibhava, offering ₹20,000 per farmer
Naidu emphasized that these initiatives—including investment deals amounting to ₹5 lakh crore and schemes like Deepam‑2 (LPG cylinders support)—reflect the administration’s promise to balance welfare and infrastructure development.
He reaffirmed the ruling TDP/NDA’s commitment: “We owe a debt to Visakhapatnam…I will develop it like Mumbai,” credited the city's overwhelming support in the 2024 elections, and urged continued backing ahead of 2029.
With the metro expected to start by 2028–30 and infrastructure works underway, Naidu is positioning Vizag as the next major urban and industrial hub on India’s east coast.
