CMFRI-Visakhapatnam celebrates 78th Foundation Day
The ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), Visakhapatnam, celebrated its 78th Foundation Day on Monday with great enthusiasm. The event was inaugurated by chief guest James S.K. Adams, Managing Director of Dr. Agarwal’s Health Care, Visakhapatnam.
The celebration saw the presence of heads from various fisheries institutes and representatives from stakeholder departments. Around 1,000 students from six schools, along with research scholars from Andhra University, visited the centre. The young visitors were fascinated by the institute’s research activities and the Marine Museum, which showcases over 250 specimens and live fish species, including the Golden Trevally, Orange-Spotted Grouper, and Indian Pompano, along with their spawn. Exhibits on artificial reefs and marine biodiversity attracted significant attention, sparking curiosity and admiration among attendees.
Situated along the scenic R.K. Beach, the ICAR-CMFRI Regional Centre has been instrumental in supporting aqua farmers, fish culturists, and marine fishers in the region for decades. The foundation day celebration emphasized the institute’s dedication to marine fisheries research and conservation while fostering community engagement through interactive sessions and educational activities, said Joe K. Kizhakudan, Head of the Regional Centre.
The program featured displays highlighting marine biodiversity and research accomplishments, as well as interactive sessions where scientists addressed queries from students and visitors, making it a truly enriching experience for all.
