TCS to Commence Operations in Visakhapatnam Within 90 Days, Says Minister Nara Lokesh
State IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh announced that Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) will soon establish a facility in Visakhapatnam, positioning the port city as a growing IT and technology hub. Speaking to The Indian Express on Wednesday, Lokesh stated that the process of identifying land for TCS’s permanent campus is underway.
“The facility will accommodate 10,000 employees, though constructing a permanent building may take two to three years. Initially, TCS will operate from a rented facility, with operations set to commence within 90 days,” Lokesh said.
Highlighting the state's commitment to technological advancements, Lokesh mentioned that innovations such as artificial intelligence (AI) and big data will be integrated into the IT sector. Additionally, the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub will support startups. The Andhra Pradesh government aims to generate at least five lakh IT jobs in the next five years and is encouraging other tech companies to expand their presence in Visakhapatnam.
Following his visit to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed optimism that Visakhapatnam will experience an IT transformation with the arrival of TCS.
During the event, Naidu also engaged with Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, urging him to explore the possibility of setting up a design center in Visakhapatnam for server chip development. He further invited Google Cloud to establish a manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh to integrate its server supply chain, positioning the state as a hub for server maintenance services.
Google Cloud, the world's third-largest cloud service provider, has already launched two cloud regions in Delhi and Mumbai. The company recently signed an MoU with the Andhra Pradesh government to develop a Data City in Visakhapatnam and promote AI applications, while also fostering skill development initiatives for local youth.
