Visakhapatnam: A depression has formed over the East Central Bay of Bengal, moving west-northwestwards, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
The system is currently located approximately 730 km southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 770 km south-southeast of Sagar Island (West Bengal), and 740 km south-southeast of Khepupara (Bangladesh).
The depression is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm by Wednesday, October 23, over the East Central Bay of Bengal. As it continues its northwestward trajectory, it is likely to strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm over the northwest Bay of Bengal by the morning of October 24.
The IMD forecasts that the storm will cross the coasts of north Odisha and West Bengal between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of October 24 and the morning of October 25. The anticipated wind speeds are expected to reach 100-110 km/h, with gusts up to 120 km/h. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and urge everyone to stay safe and updated on weather advisories.
