GVMC Aims for First Place in Swachh Survekshan 2024: Public Participation Key to Success

Visakhapatnam, February 28: GVMC Additional Commissioner R. Somanna Rayana has emphasized the importance of public participation in achieving first place in the 2024 Swachh Survekshan rankings. Speaking at a review meeting on Swachh Survekshan 2024 Public Opinion Collection held at GVMC Third Zonal Office, he urged officials, including Zonal Commissioners, AMOHs, Sanitary Supervisors, Inspectors, and Ward Sanitary Secretaries, to actively engage in creating awareness among citizens.

The Additional Commissioner highlighted that Swachh Survekshan 2024 has already commenced within GVMC limits and reiterated the crucial role of citizen feedback in determining rankings. He stressed that every GVMC employee and official must work dedicatedly to make Visakhapatnam the cleanest city in the country. Citizens must be made aware of their role in providing valuable feedback on the cleanliness and sanitation measures implemented by GVMC.

To ensure Visakhapatnam’s top ranking, daily waste collection from households, segregation and disposal, road and drain cleaning, maintenance of public spaces such as markets, parks, and gardens, and proper utilization of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) centers must be effectively executed. The city’s public must also be informed about public toilet cleanliness, sanitation complaint resolution, and overall civic satisfaction.

Since public feedback collection for Swachh Survekshan has begun, residents will be approached through face-to-face surveys, the Swachhata app, and the official website link. The Additional Commissioner reminded citizens that Visakhapatnam has already secured the 4th position among the cleanest cities in India and is striving for the top spot. To achieve this, GVMC is continuously enhancing sanitation infrastructure, providing better civic services, and ensuring a cleaner and more beautiful city.

He urged citizens to participate by submitting their feedback via the Swachhata MoHUA mobile app by entering the One-Time Password (OTP) sent to their phones. Their input will play a pivotal role in helping Visakhapatnam claim the number one rank in India. The Additional Commissioner directed ward secretaries and sanitation staff across all local administrative units to assist citizens in submitting their feedback and ensure their active involvement in Swachh Survekshan.

In conclusion, he stressed that citizen cooperation is vital in making Visakhapatnam a cleaner and more livable city. By actively participating in the Swachh Survekshan feedback process, residents can contribute to the city's development and help it achieve first place in national cleanliness rankings.
