Visakhapatnam’s major transport hubs, including Visakhapatnam Railway Station, Duvvada, Dwaraka RTC Complex and Maddilapalem, are experiencing heavy passenger movement as students and families travel for the Dasara holidays. The holiday period has increased pressure on both railway and bus services, with several trains reporting long waiting lists.
To manage the demand, the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has deployed nearly 450 special buses across Visakhapatnam district. Officials said additional services would be adjusted according to passenger demand on routes connecting the city with destinations such as Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Salur, Vijayawada and Rajahmundry.
Meanwhile, the Regional Transport Authority intensified inspections of private contract-carriage buses to check permit violations, unpaid motor vehicle taxes and safety issues, including faulty emergency exits. Between September 11 and October 11, officials registered 96 cases and collected ₹8,76,380 in fines. Inspections are expected to continue through the end of October, with authorities warning operators to follow permit, vehicle-fitness and passenger-safety rules.
