Defence civilian employees demand the continuation of the old pension scheme
Defence civilian employees went on a padayatra from NAD Kotha road junction to Gandhi Statue at GVMC demanding the continuation of the old pension scheme.
State CITU president Ch. Narasinga Rao claimed that BJP government policies were favoring the corporate groups to acquire assets of the country.
He also added that the central government has handed over Gangavaram and Krishnapatnam ports to Adani Ports and Sez, and the process of handing over five berths at Visakhapatnam port is currently underway.
He urged workers to oppose the privatization of the Vizag steel plant, which might also be sold to Adani Group.
P. Nageshwara Rao, the union general secretary of Naval Civilian employees, added that employees who joined in 2004 and retired now are only receiving a pension of less than Rs 3000. Chairman of the Defence Coordination Committee Reddy Venkat Rao stated that by continuing the fight, they could persuade the centre to withdraw NPS. He recalled the long battle waged by farmers that resulted in the Centre's withdrawal of the 3 Farm bills.
