Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan Pledges to Combat Pollution in Visakhapatnam

In a recent Andhra Pradesh Assembly session, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan addressed the urgent issue of pollution in Visakhapatnam. He emphasized the government's ongoing efforts and future plans to mitigate environmental degradation in the city.

Green Visakha Initiative:

Deputy CM Kalyan highlighted the success of the Green Visakha program, which saw the planting of 4 million trees across approximately 7,000 acres between 2012 and 2021. This initiative involved contributions from numerous industries, including HPCL, Steel Plant, Visakhapatnam Port Trust, NTPC, and Gangavaram Port, all of which played a significant role in the city's greening efforts.

Challenges and Improvements:

Acknowledging the difficulties residents face in accessing Pollution Control Board (PCB) offices to report grievances, Kalyan assured that improving accessibility is a priority. "We recognize the challenges and are committed to making it easier for those affected by pollution to voice their concerns," he stated, adding that steps have already been initiated to address this issue.

Comprehensive Pollution Control:

Beyond air pollution, Kalyan emphasized the need to address water and soil pollution. The Speaker of the AP Assembly noted Visakhapatnam's special place in Kalyan's heart, urging him to personally visit and tackle the pollution problems in the area.

Commitment to Action:

Responding positively, Kalyan pledged to closely monitor and support anti-pollution initiatives. "I am dedicated to saving North Andhra cities, especially Visakhapatnam, from pollution. We will continue our efforts to ensure the city remains safe for its residents," he assured.

Role of APPCB:

The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) plays a crucial role in ensuring industries comply with environmental norms. Kalyan mentioned that industries making efforts to reduce air pollution would receive upgraded mechanisms to further enhance their initiatives. Additionally, real-time pollution monitoring systems and on-site verifications will be employed to ensure strict adherence to environmental standards.

In summary, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan's address underscored a strong commitment to combating pollution in Visakhapatnam through continued government efforts, enhanced accessibility for reporting grievances, and stringent monitoring of industrial compliance with environmental standards.
