Dockyard Bridge Closure in Visakhapatnam

The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Bridge, also known as the Dockyard Bridge, will be closed to traffic from 7 am on August 1st, 2024, for an indefinite period. The bridge, which connects the industrial area to the main city, will be closed for repairs.

The closure is expected to cause traffic congestion, and commuters are advised to take alternative routes.

The Harbour Zone Traffic CI, Shanmukha Rao, has announced that personnel from Malkapuram and Harbour stations will be deployed on both sides of the bridge to prevent any traffic movement.

The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has stated that the bridge will be closed for at least nine months. The repairs are necessary due to the bridge's deteriorating condition.

The bridge was previously closed to heavy vehicles in September 2019, and the VPA has now decided to close it to all vehicles.

The closure of the bridge is expected to cause significant inconvenience to commuters, as the alternative route is longer and more congested.

The VPA has not yet announced a timeline for the completion of the repairs.
