Encouraging Coastal Cleanup: Eastern Naval Command Takes Action in Visakhapatnam

In a remarkable endeavour known as the 'Puneet Sagar Abhiyaan,' the Eastern Naval Command has committed to devoting one day per month to the noble cause of coastal cleanup. This includes the comprehensive cleansing of rivers and lakes, reinforcing their dedication to preserving the natural beauty of Visakhapatnam.

During the month of June, the coastal cleanup initiatives encompassed various prominent locations such as Yarada, RK, Jalaripeta, Kalinga Beaches, VUDA Park to East Point Light, Meghadripeta River Channel, harbor waters, and the naval channel.

The primary objective of these cleanup activities is to raise awareness among the local communities about the perils associated with the rampant use of plastic and its detrimental impact on the delicate ecosystems of oceans and rivers. Over 650 diligent service personnel from the Eastern Naval Command, alongside dedicated local residents, wholeheartedly participated in these cleanup programs conducted along the extensive coastal areas that span across the city. As part of this concerted effort, an estimated 750 kilograms of non-biodegradable waste, including plastic bottles, wrappers, thermocol, and fragments of glass, were meticulously collected from the cleanup sites.

The Eastern Naval Command's unwavering commitment to preserving the marine environment stands as a shining example of their dedication to ecological sustainability and their steadfast resolve to safeguard our precious natural resources. The collective participation and tireless efforts of all those involved in the coastal cleanup initiatives serve as an inspiration for communities far and wide, emphasizing the importance of responsible waste management and the preservation of our cherished coastal landscapes.
