Enhanced Passenger Traffic Management by Waltair Division Ahead of Festival Rush

Visakhapatnam: As the festive season approaches, the Waltair Division of East Coast Railway is implementing an extensive range of crowd management measures to ensure a seamless travel experience for passengers at its major railway stations.

With the anticipated influx of travelers for Diwali and Chhath Puja, the division has proactively enhanced its services to improve passenger comfort and efficiency. New ticket counters and Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) have been added, along with dedicated inquiry counters and “May I Help You” desks to assist travelers.

In anticipation of increased demand, the railway authorities have also increased catering services and water facilities to better serve passenger needs. To further accommodate the surge, special trains have been introduced, and existing services have been augmented with additional coaches. Platform numbers for all trains, including special services, will be displayed prominently in advance, allowing passengers to plan their journeys effectively.

K. Sandeep, Sr. Divisional Commercial Manager, stated, “We have established robust crowd management systems to provide a smooth and comfortable experience for our passengers during this busy period. Our teams are diligently monitoring the situation in real-time to swiftly address any emergencies that may arise.”

To ensure orderly queuing, platform areas have been barricaded, with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and commercial personnel overseeing the boarding process. Special teams from the RPF and the Commercial department have been deployed to monitor train operations throughout their journeys.

Additionally, mini control rooms staffed by teams from various departments—including Operations, Commercial, Mechanical, Engineering, Electrical, and RPF—have been set up to monitor CCTV feeds of circulating areas, ensuring a quick response to any issues.

In a recent demonstration of their preparedness, railway authorities at Visakhapatnam station successfully managed to accommodate over 400 passengers who could not board rush-hour trains to northern destinations. Effective queuing systems and timely announcements were implemented, and passengers were provided with snacks and water during their wait.

Sandeep emphasized, “We urge passengers to cooperate with the railway administration’s efforts for effective crowd management. This collaboration will enable us to better serve you during this bustling season.”
