Free Cancer Screening Camp at Vizag's Golden Jubilee Port Hospital from Today (January 31st).
The Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (HBCH&RC), a unit of Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, is hosting a week-long free common cancers screening program at the Golden Jubilee Port Hospital in Saligramapuram.
The initiative, running from January 30 to February 4, aims to provide accessible cancer screening services to the public.
The program was inaugurated by Y. Srinivas Rao, Additional Commissioner (General), Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, and Dr. S. Usha Devi, Chief Medical Officer, Golden Jubilee Hospital, Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA), on Tuesday.
Dr. Umesh Mahantshetty, Director, HBCH&RC, was also present at the event.
Dr. Umesh emphasized that the screening initiative includes counseling services and awareness activities as part of World Cancer Day on February 4.
Individuals identified as positive during the screening will be offered follow-up tests at HBCH&RC.
The program focuses on cancer awareness and free camps for common cancer screening, contributing to the ongoing efforts by the A.P. State Health Department.
The initiative aims to address disparities in cancer screening, bridging the care gap caused by knowledge and financial constraints in cancer control.
The director stressed the importance of early detection for timely treatment, stating that cancer-related health education plays a significant role in cancer prevention.
The campaign underscores the critical role of tobacco control, as a majority of cancers in India and worldwide are linked to tobacco use.
Additionally, adopting a healthy lifestyle, including vaccination, exercise, and a balanced diet, contributes to reducing the risk of cancer. Regular screening for common cancers among adults is also highlighted as a crucial step in early detection.
