From Shipwreck to Fine Dining, MV Maa to become Vizag's Floating Restaurant
MV Maa, a Bangladeshi ship that ran aground at Tenneti Park Beach in Vizag, India, is set to become the city's newest tourist attraction in the form of a floating restaurant. The conversion of MV Maa, a Bangladeshi ship that ran aground at Tenneti Park Beach, into a floating restaurant is gaining momentum. The project is being carried out by Gill Marines through a special-purpose vehicle created for the purpose. The DGPS survey of Jodugullapalem and the vessel has been completed, and plans to lay a pathway from Jodugullapalem to Tenneti Park Beach have been Revived.
However, the forest clearance posed a roadblock that required a DGPS survey and the alienation of equivalent land for the forest department. But the district Collector issued an order for the advance possession of 1.5 acres in the Sontyam area, and the DGPS survey of the 1.5 acres has been carried out.
The conversion project is in the Coastal Regulatory Zone ( CRZ), which requires remote Sensing Maps for CRZ clearance. To this end, the National Institute of Oceanography is preparing a map, which will be sent to the NIO office in Pune for approval after being inspected by an NIO team led by scientist Jawahar. After receiving the certified remote Sensing map, the project will apply for CRZ clearance to the Andhra Pradesh Coastal Zone Management Authority ( APCZMA), which will forward it to the National Coastal Zone Management Authority ( NCZMA).
The forest clearance and remote Sensing map are expected to be obtained within a week, while the CRZ clearance is expected to be granted within two months. Gill Marines is confident that it can complete all aspects of the project and open the floating restaurant to visitors within two months of receiving clearance. The floating restaurant will have rooms, a banquet hall, party facilities on the deck, toilets, rain sheds, etc. The project is expected to be a major attraction for tourists in Vizag. Discussions are ongoing between the government and Gill Marines regarding revenue sharing.
