GVMC Initiates Fire Safety Inspections for Multi-Storied Buildings in Visakhapatnam

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has launched a comprehensive initiative to ensure fire safety compliance in multi-storied buildings across its jurisdiction.

Commissioner C.M. Saikanth Varma emphasized the critical importance of maintaining fire safety equipment in all establishments, prioritizing public safety and security.

Beginning March 14th, the GVMC will conduct thorough fire safety inspections in various multi-storey buildings, encompassing hotels, restaurants, commercial complexes, educational institutions, function halls, theatres, industries, and other high-rise constructions.

This initiative aims to enforce strict adherence to fire safety regulations and protocols to mitigate potential hazards and safeguard the lives and properties of residents.

In a press release issued on Thursday, Commissioner Saikanth Varma underscored the responsibility of building management to ensure adequate fire safety measures.

This includes providing comprehensive training to staff members in fire-fighting techniques and procedures.

Furthermore, building authorities are required to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from either the GVMC or the Fire Department, validating compliance with fire safety standards.

Regular mock drills must be conducted at least once every three months to assess preparedness and response capabilities in the event of a fire emergency.

During GVMC inspections, establishments found to be non-compliant or lacking essential fire safety equipment will face immediate corrective action, including the issuance of notices and potential penalties.

Commissioner Saikanth Varma also emphasized the corporation's readiness to assist establishments in acquiring and installing fire safety equipment by connecting them with the GVMC Regional Fire Safety Officer.

This proactive initiative underscores the GVMC's commitment to promoting a culture of fire safety and resilience within Visakhapatnam's urban landscape.

By enforcing stringent regulations and fostering collaboration between stakeholders, the corporation aims to enhance preparedness and mitigate fire-related risks, ensuring the well-being and security of the city's residents and visitors alike.
