GVMC Launches 8 Innovative RRR Centers to Combat Plastic Waste
Visakhapatnam: In a significant move to combat single-use plastic consumption, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has taken proactive measures.
The GVMC has inaugurated eight RRR (reduce-reuse-recycle) centers, strategically placing one in each city zone.
These centers not only promote waste reduction but also aim to raise awareness and induce a shift in public behavior towards recycling.
Each RRR center has been ingeniously designed with a unique theme to engage and educate the public about the importance of recycling and making sustainable lifestyle choices.
For instance, the Tagarapuvalasa RRR center adopts a book café theme, encouraging people to reuse their old books. Other centers feature themes such as a children's play area, a home garden, a women's restro café, and more.
CM Saikanth Varma, the Commissioner of GVMC, highlighted the city's commitment to reducing single-use plastic by revealing that the GVMC has imposed approximately 38 lakh penalties on those violating single-use plastic usage regulations.
He emphasized that these RRR centers play a pivotal role in recycling items and promoting reuse, contributing not only to ecological balance but also providing financial benefits to the users. This initiative marks a significant step forward in the city's sustainability efforts.
