Hidden Sprouts Special School for Mentally Handicapped Children: A Testament to the Founder's Dedication and Commitment

Hidden Sprouts Special School for Mentally Handicapped Children was founded with the aim of placing mentally challenged children in the community as useful human beings with the same human dignity appreciated by all parents, families, and people who value humanitarianism. The school is committed to serving on humanitarian grounds, free of charge, and is making great strides toward achieving its goal of driving the mentally challenged toward economic independence. It began in 2007 with just nine mentally challenged children, but it has grown considerably since then. It has received recognition and is now registered under the Societies Act. The school is situated in a rent-free building provided by the GVMC in Visakhapatnam, and it currently has 144 students. The children participate in various activities such as games, cultural activities, and vocational courses like candlemaking, bookbinding, tailoring, and more.

The school's founder had a dream of serving others. After attending a seminar on special needs children, the founder was inspired to help these children and their families and completed Special B.Ed. degree to gain the knowledge and skills needed to start Hidden Sprouts Special School. The name of the school, Hidden Sprouts, represents the talent that lies hidden behind mentally challenged children. Like a new tree that sprouts from rotten fruit, these children can also transform themselves into useful human beings with the right guidance and support.

Hidden Sprouts Special School is dedicated to providing a better future for mentally challenged children. The school does not charge any fees and provides free uniforms, transportation, and lunch. The founder's belief is that it is not fair to burden the parents of these children further by charging fees. The school has a team of 25 dedicated staff members who are passionate about helping these children. The school takes a holistic approach to education by focusing on self-help skills, education, socialization, pre-vocational, vocational, sports, and cultural activities. The children are trained in each of these areas to develop their skills and improve their overall well-being. The school operates from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a break for lunch from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. The school is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

The children at Hidden Sprouts Special School have excelled in sports and cultural activities. They have won numerous medals and trophies, and they perform dances for devotional songs, folk songs, patriotic songs, solos, and a specially choreographed Tiger dance. The school also offers vocational training to children above the age of 15. Boys are trained in bookbinding, while girls are trained in tailoring and embroidery. The school recently added new courses in flower making, thread earrings, necklaces, and thread bangles to provide more opportunities for the children. The school also provides speech and physiotherapy to improve the children's speech and fine and gross motor skills, respectively. The school has two buses for transporting the children to and from school. A faculty member and an attendant accompany the children on the bus to ensure their safety.

Hidden Sprouts Special School for Mentally Handicapped Children is dedicated to providing the best education and support for mentally challenged children. The school has made remarkable progress since its inception, and it continues to grow with the support of its dedicated staff and community. By providing these children with education and vocational training, the school is helping them become useful members of society and improving their quality of life. The founder's dream of serving others has come true, and Hidden Sprouts Special School for Mentally Handicapped Children is a testament to her dedication and commitment.
