Inspiring journey of Teja Nidamanuru to world Cup- From AP to Auckland

The enticing aroma of tomato pappu, a cherished traditional dal dish, envelops Anil Teja Nidamanuru, igniting within him a spirited enthusiasm reminiscent of childhood. This culinary yearning serves as a vivid reminder of Nidamanuru's deep-rooted connection to his Indian heritage.

At the age of 29, Nidamanuru proudly hails from Vijayawada presently, donning the orange jersey of the Netherlands in anticipation of the upcoming World Cup. When he strides onto the field for their inaugural match against Pakistan in Hyderabad on October 6, it will be a historic moment, as it marks the first time his family will witness him showcasing his cricketing prowess on the international stage.

This pivotal juncture in his journey signifies a fresh chapter, one that has led him on a remarkable odyssey spanning from Auckland to Amsterdam and all the way to Harare.

Expressing his excitement, Anil shared, "Playing in India would be a dream come true. Cricket holds a special place in Indian culture, and being there would mean the world to me, especially with my family in attendance at the games." He made this statement from Harare following his team's remarkable victory.

Anil's cricketing roots trace back to Vijayawada, where he was raised by his grandparents while his mother, Padmavathi Pallekona, pursued her studies and career in Singapore.

He fondly recalled, "My grandfather, Pitchia Shastri, bought me my first cricket bat in Vijayawada and encouraged me to play.

When I was six, my mother got a job in Auckland, New Zealand, and we both relocated there. Interestingly, her workplace was near the Cornwall Cricket Club, where Kiwi legends like Martin Crowe and Mark Greatbatch developed their skills. I began training thereafter and we settled in Auckland."

Anil ventured into age-group cricket in Auckland before making his List A debut for the Auckland Aces at the age of 23 in 2018. He also played T20 and one-day matches for the team. However, due to stiff competition, he couldn't secure a permanent spot in the squad. Determined to continue his cricketing journey, Anil decided to explore opportunities abroad.

He began playing as an overseas professional for clubs in England, taking advantage of the contrasting seasons between New Zealand and England, allowing him to play cricket year-round.  Presently, Nidamanuru juggles two distinct contracts: one as a player and the other for his administrative duties, which affords him the privilege of calling the Netherlands his home.
Netherlands' cricket landscape yearns for rejuvenation and growth, and Nidamanuru has assumed the mantle of leadership in their cricketing endeavors.

He focuses on strategic development, aiming to expand the sport's reach and establish pathways for aspiring talents. His unique position as both a player and administrator grants him a holistic perspective, enabling him to contribute across various facets of the game's growth.

On the field, Nidamanuru abides by a philosophy known as S.O.U.L (Selflessness, Ownership, Unity, Learning), which he believes is evolving into the team's resounding mantra for the World Cup. He underscores the significance of every match in Associate cricket, emphasizing their culture of resourcefulness, which has yielded remarkable results despite limitations.

Nidamanuru's immediate aspiration centers on the World Cup, and his training regimen reflects his unwavering commitment. He draws inspiration from the rigorous discipline exemplified by players like Virat Kohli and he acknowledges that this dedication marks the distinction between being merely good and achieving greatness.

His post-World Cup plans include an extended stay in India, where he intends to reunite with his family in Vijayawada and relish in culinary delights. His anticipation for the future resonates palpably, as he eagerly anticipates what lies ahead in his extraordinary journey.
