Visakhapatnam: In light of shifting global power dynamics, Indo-Pacific leaders were called upon to focus not just on geopolitics but on addressing the broader human impact of their decisions.
Visakhapatnam MP M Sribharat, speaking at an international conference held at GITAM on Thursday, emphasized the need for leadership that prioritizes humanity and empathy in tackling critical challenges such as poverty, climate change, migration, and unemployment.
The conference, titled “The Indo-Pacific in an Era of Changing Power Dynamics: Economic Integration and Security,” brought together scholars and policymakers to discuss the region's pressing issues. MP Sribharat urged leaders to act with compassion and diplomacy to shape a peaceful and sustainable future, while encouraging the youth to rise as globally aware citizens.
JNU Vice-Chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit highlighted the sensitive geopolitical tensions between China and Taiwan, and the significant role Taiwan plays in the global semiconductor industry. She emphasized the importance of Visakhapatnam’s strategic position as a maritime hub in the Indo-Pacific region.
Robert Hsieh Bor-Huei, deputy representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center, spoke about Taiwan’s economic growth and its global relations.
Organized by GITAM, Jawaharlal Nehru University (New Delhi), and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center, the event tackled crucial economic and security challenges. GITAM Vice-Chancellor Y Gowtham Rao discussed the exploitation of natural resources in third-world countries by emerging powerhouses, advocating for sustainable practices and highlighting India’s development journey grounded in peace and hard work.
