Political leaders and members of the Visakha Ukku Parirakshana Porata Committee organized a big walk, called Maha Padayatra, to show their disapproval of plans to sell the RINL-Visakhapatnam Steel Plant by the government. They've been protesting for 1,116 days against this move.

On March 3, people walked for about 20 kilometers from Kurmannapalem to the GVMC statue. They held signs with messages against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and shouted slogans against the people supporting the privatization plan.

Leaders from different political parties (except BJP) joined the protest, including GVMC mayor G. Hari Venkata Kumari from the YSR Congress.

The committee leaders, Ayodhyaram and Adinarayana, mentioned that the BJP-led central government decided to sell the steel plant three years ago. They pointed out actions like leasing out the Blast Furnace-3 unit and introducing the biometric attendance system.

CPM State leader Ch. Narasingrao insisted that the BJP should clarify its stance on the steel plant before the elections. He warned that if the government continues to sell public assets to private companies, it will face strong opposition from the public in the upcoming polls.

Jana Sena party leader Kona Tatarao criticized the State government for not doing enough to prevent the plant's privatization. He blamed the government's friendly relationship with the BJP for this failure.
