The prestigious multilateral exercise MILAN 2022 has commenced on 25 February 2022 in the city. The theme of this event is Camaraderie – Cohesion – Collaboration, with the goal of representing India as a responsible maritime power to the rest of the world.

Through professional engagement with friendly navies, the exercise aims to polish operational abilities, internalise practices and facilitate doctrinal learning in the maritime environment. MILAN 2022 is the first multilateral naval exercise in Visakhapatnam.

The nine-day multilateral event is in two phases, the harbour phase and the sea phase. MILAN 2022 has witnessed the largest ever participation with more than 40 countries that sent their warships and high-level delegations. This is the eleventh edition of MILAN 2022.

MILAN means meeting or confluence in Hindi. As the name says, the navies of many countries met on the Bay of Bengal. Visakhapatnam entrails this solemn event, as the parade on 27 March 2022, was a delight. On this day, there were dance performances, march past by various contingents, laser shows, and fireworks. The International City Parade left the audience spellbound. 

For the harbour phase, a MILAN village was arranged to showcase India's Culture with numerous stalls. There is going to be a display of a variety of crafts and commodities. Ranging from khadi fabrics to handicrafts, souvenirs to wares from cottage industries, curios to art and crafts, and an assortment of scrumptious Indian cuisines.

The 11th edition of MILAN the key focus is on the exercises at the sea. More sub-surface, air domains, and weapon firing events are being performed. Apart from this, there are seminars for the navies from various countries and conferences that let them share their views on maritime.
